Road Trip & APRS
Yesterday we got bored and it was too hot on CapHill so we jumped in the car and went for a drive. We do this trip to nowhere quite often. Usually I declare a road trip, say if we need to pack clothes or not and off we go. I don't usually say where we're going and sometimes I'm not even sure where we're going. Yesterday the goal was to drive down 101 and get dinner along the way.
I like using APRS to track our routes. Its fun to see how well our signal is getting out. It works where cell phones may not and I have the radio for emergencies.
My setup right now is a Baofeng BF-F8HP a Mobilinkd TNC2 and I use APRSDroid to control the Mobilinkd and get GPS data into the TNC.
